Additional Info: Nicholas Todd Shumate, graduated from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 2007. Mr. Shumate was a member of the acclaimed Northwestern Troubadours, Trouvéres, and Singers under the direction of Mrs. Elizabeth Mixon and Ms. Sara Doggett. While serving in the choir he participated in the South Carolina All State SATB Chorus for two years, and received a top five ranking in the state for his section both years. During his freshmen year the ninth grade chorus the Singers competed in it's first South Carolina State Choral Festival, receiving a third place ranking. Nicholas, also served in the Troubadours during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. The Troubadours won 3 state titles and was ranked the number one choir in the state of South Carolina for three years. Also a member of the varsity boy's tennis team for six years and received All Region Honors and Team MVP.

In the Fall of 2007 Mr. Shumate attended Limestone College upon graduation from Northwestern High School where he majored in Music Education with a centration in vocal/choral music education. He was a voice student of Dr. Catherine F. Siarris and a piano student of Dr. David B. Thompson during his tenture at Limestone. He also studied conducting with Dr. Gena E. Poovey, Professor of Choral/Vocal Music Education , and instrumental conducting with Dr. Doug L. Presley, Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of Bands. While at Limestone he was a member of the Limestone College & Community Chorus, Show Choir, and Men’s Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Gena E. Poovey. Nicholas was very active with student organizations at Limestone, holding the office of Treasurer and Vice President of the Limestone College Chapter of The National Association for Music Educators. He was a key member of the Student Government Association at holding the office of Freshman and Sophomore Class President, as well as the office of Student Body President and President of the Student Government Association during his junior and senior years. Completion of three seasons on the Limestone Men’s Tennis Team, and was a Resident Assistant for four consecutive years are just a few of many organizations Nicholas was apart of.

Mr. Shumate has studied voice with Micheal Miller, B.M.E. and M.M, and Jerry Helton, Professor Emeritus of Music at Winthrop University. He has also studied conducting Dr. Bingham L. Vick, Jr., retired Professor of Music and Director of the Furman Singers, Artistic Director of the Greenville Chorale and Chamber Chorale. Nicholas student taught under Patrick Lowery, Florence Chapel Middle School, Duncan, SC, and Rusty Keesler, Chorus Director Byrnes High School, Duncan, SC.

Currently Mr. Shumate is working towards obtaining his masters in choral conducting at Winthrop University, in Rock Hill, SC. Mr. Shumate is a conducting student and Graduate Assistant to Dr. Katherine Kinsey, Associate Professor of Music and Head of Choral Activities. He will graduate in the Spring of 2014. Currently, he sings with the Charlotte Oratorio Singers under the direction of Dr. Scott A. Jarrett, D.M.A. His future plans are to become a high school choral conductor, obtain a D.M.A. in Choral Conducting, and conduct at a collegiate/professional level.

Nicholas Shumate lives in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He enjoys spending time with his friends, parents, three brothers, sister-inlaw, and beautiful niece.
